Eye Cuttings

This sort of cutting is basically only used on grape vines and their close relatives but they do need to be in a heated propagator set at 70F (52C).

The cuttings are taken in December by cutting 1 ½ inch (4cm) segments of well ripened present years wood, each containing a dormant 'eye' or bud in the centre.

A thin slice of wood is removed from the opposite side to the bud and the cutting is placed horizontally on the compost with the bud uppermost. Water well and put in a propagator and maintain a temperature of 70F (52C).
