Propagation by Pipings

Pipings are the name of the type of cuttings taken from Carnations and Dianthus and are taken in July / August .

Method -

Pull gently on the shoot tips and you should find that they snap off cleanly just above a leaf joint.

Trim the bottom leaves off to leave 3 or 4 pairs of leaves.

Dip into hormone compound and treat the same as ordinary tip cuttings by inserting into a hole made with a dibber in a pot of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame.
