Vervain

(Verbena officianalis)

A perennial plant with pointed leaves and spikes of purple flowers. It needs a rich, well-drained soil in a very sunny position. Can be grown from seed sown in spring or by root division or cuttings.

Harvesting

Cut sprigs for using fresh or for drying in summer before the flowers open.

Uses

Mainly ornamental but a tisane can be made from the leaves.
